Winkler’s Bazooka Baby Is What Dreams Are Made Of

Written by Elizabeth Weiss

Winkler’s Bazooka Baby evokes the feeling of spinning a record while sharing a dance with your lover. With its unique blend of smooth 60s psychedelia and a hint of country, the album feels effortlessly cohesive. At just 21 minutes, it's a brief but sweet journey, much like the tender, captivating vocals that carry it. Winkler has long been a master of crafting flawless melodies and harmonies, and this album takes that skill to new depths. In a conversation with the Dreamworldgirl Zine, they cited influences like Neil Young, Alvvays, and Mick Jagger’s playful southern drawl as inspiration which all shaped the album’s sound.

The final two tracks,“ Cicada Summer” and“ Get It!”, introduce an unexpected twist, venturing into post-punk garage rock, adding an element of surprise and energy to the mix. Romance and intimacy are central themes throughout the album, with tracks like“ Spin You‘ Round” standing out. The crooning vocals of Justin Schaefers linger, leaving an unforgettable impression. Likewise, Bazooka Baby envelops the listener in an intimate atmosphere, as if being serenaded at a private concert.

The album sparks an insatiable craving for what’s to come next. It left me with an undeniable urge to experience their entire discography live, as if the music demands to be felt in its raw, unfiltered nature on stage.
