Ranking Winx Club Couples
Written by Daphne Bryant
Winx Club: an animated TV show about fairies that shaped my childhood and still makes me feel happy tingles when I think about it. The larger than life romances in Winx Club are partially responsible for my unrealistic dating standards, but I loved them because every single relationship was unique and different. Today, I thought I’d rank all of the OG Winx Couples from least to most compatible <3
6. Tecna and timmy
In the sixth spot we have Tecna and Timmy, who are both techies known for their innovation: Tecna’s power and magic revolves around technology, while Timmy is the stereotypical smart guy out of the Specialist group, always creating gadgets and flying the ships. Naturally I guess the creators thought it would make sense to pair the two nerds together, but this couple has a big problem: there’s no chemistry. Like actually genuinely no chemistry.
Don’t get me wrong: I understand that they’re both socially awkward and prefer to be on the Internet than with people, and this is something they bond over at first. However, this also means their romantic interactions are not very romantic at all. There’s no tension, it’s all just bland, bland, bland. If anything, it feels like Timmy and Tecna would be better as good friends. Or, even better, I suspect they’re beards for each other. I mean, you can’t tell me Tecna doesn’t give lesbian and Timmy doesn’t give twink!
5. Musa and Riven
Were you expecting Musa and Riven to be in the last spot? Maybe, since their relationship is undoubtedly the most toxic; and yet, there’s something about them that’s so addictive. On a base level, they look great together, and are probably one of the most attractive Winx Couples. But also (and I hope I don’t sound too twisted saying this), it was lowkey entertaining watching their relationship deteriorate, seeing their ups and downs, the way they always came back to each other. Sure, I cheered when Musa ended things in later seasons, but I didn’t mind seeing her wrestle with her feelings vs. her worth. The whole disaster that was their dynamic is honestly super relatable: so many of us have been in unhealthy or abusive relationships or situations. Musa and Riven depicted the reality of being with someone that’s not really made for you.
They’re just too different: Riven is super aggressive and doesn’t know how to handle his anger or communicate very well, whereas Musa is very in tune with her emotions and probably needs to be with a creative spirit who sees the world the way she does.
4. Bloom and sky
In the #4 spot we have Bloom and Sky. Why? Well, they’re basic. This happens a lot when a main character ends up with another main character. Bloom is the center of the Winx Club, while Sky is the core of the Specialists: when you put people like that together, there’s usually not a whole lot of balance or intrigue. An extra element is often required, but for Bloom and Sky, they pretty much think the same and act the same, and are both the royal leaders of their kingdoms. The writers probably thought:“ He’s the Crown Prince of Eraklyon, he’s going to be King, she’s the Lost Princess of Domino, let’s make it happen.”
Yes, they have good chemistry and are cute together; I remember being obsessed with them in my childhood because they were regarded and treated as the IT couple. Bloom and Sky were in prominent positions and received the most scenes, but that doesn’t actually make them a good couple. There’s something off about their relationship too: in the first few seasons there are multiple storylines where Bloom and Sky are both accused of cheating on or having feelings for problematic people, which the series just sort of brushes over.
I fearrr they’re doing just a little too much.
3. Stella and brandon
Stella and Brandon have earned my #3 spot! They both sort of have this superficial air to them: Brandon’s whole thing is that he’s handsome, muscular and sort of a dude bro, and we all know that Stella struggles with self-centeredness.They match each other in that way, but there’s also a lot of nuance to their relationship. For starters, Stella is bold, outgoing, loud and takes up space, but not once does Brandon scold her for it. He loves that she’s a fashion icon teetering on the edge of narcissism, and he lets her be herself the way a good boyfriend should. There’s also one episode in the Winx Club where Stella gets turned into a monster, and Brandon doesn’t care at all, comforting her despite her appearance. Brandon’s genuine care for Stella is obvious, while I believe some of the other guys would have reacted to Stella’s drastic transformation differently.
Brandon is a steadfast rock for Stella, and they make sense together. When I was younger they weren’t this high up on my list, but looking back on it now they have so much romantic chemistry! I #LOVE Stella and Brandon.
2. Aisha and nabu
Whenever I mention Aisha and Nabu I get a little bit emotional, because we all know his death scene was absolutely tragic. When Nabu died and Aisha had two other love interests in later seasons, I felt his missing presence. I never was able to get into her connections with other men because Nabu really was the love of her life. Speaking of love, I love to see black girls in love. Seeing them together made me happy, and it was awesome watching an animated interracial relationship, especially an interracial relationship between two people of color. They walked so that Tiana and Naveen could run!
Truthfully though, Aisha and Nabu complement each other: Nabu calmed Aisha while Aisha brought life into his seemingly really strict reality, healing his need to be a savior (until of course, he died being a savior).I feel like for some of these other couples, if they went and found a different partner I would be happy for them and I wouldn’t even care, but Aisha and Nabu have a very special place in my heart. I can’t really see her with anyone else.
1. Flora and Helia
The number one spot is well-deserved: Flora and Helia have been my favorites ever since I was little. If I’m going to rewatch a Winx Club episode, it’s going to be the one where she runs to him and confesses her love; it does it for me every single time. I just think they’re so cute together!
Out of every couple on this list Flora and Helia are the best at communicating. It’s probably because they’re both so in tune with their emotions and the emotions of others. Helia is a romantic and caters to Flora’s sensitive nature. He’s written poetry for Flora, loves to draw her, and always knows what to say. Meanwhile, Flora, being the sweetheart she is, softens any part of Helia that’s a little rough around the edges.
I aspire to have a relationship like Flora and Helia’s, and that’s why they’re in the #1 spot!
