Last Wednesday, April 9, Breaking Sound hosted an epic event at the music lounge Peppermint Club on Beverly Boulevard. Not familiar with Breaking Sound? Founded in 2014, Breaking Sound is a premium music company that platforms the hottest emerging artists from all around the world. Dreamworldgirl Zine was lucky enough to be invited to this month’s Breaking Sound LA and had the pleasure of seeing the talented singer songwriter, Heather LaRose, perform live.
LaRose has been a loyal fan of Dreamworldgirl Zine and the admiration goes both ways. From her commitment to the bit, to her musical sound, and deeply relatable lyrics, everything about LaRose screams STAR.
LaRose performed a set of seven original songs and an encore which featured a stripped piano version of an unreleased track. Each song was accompanied by interesting and heartfelt stories from the artist’s real life. LaRose touched on everything from the inspirations behind her music to girlhood as a whole.
While transitioning into her song“ Party Girl Tears,” LaRose shared,“ I cried on my birthday this year. That’s fine. It’s a girly pop thing to do.” She continued to speak about her birthday and her inspiration for“ Party Girl Tears.” Even after she finished performing the authentic track, LaRose’s comedic storytelling shone through once again as she said,“ I wrote that song about crying and partying and more crying,” with a slight shrug and a smile.
LaRose’s set featured other songs such as“ Episodes”, inspired by a time in everyone’s life“ when you have so much drama at the same time, you feel like you should have your own CW TV show.” Another crowd favorite was“ Loser Behavior”, where Larose taught the audience a part of the song to sing along with her. She is such a dynamic performer, interacting with her audience and even stepping off the stage to dance in the crowd.
We also loved her outfit. When speaking to LaRose, she talked about how she planned her performance, and had a desire to dress on a theme, choosing gorgeous red roses that suited her name and putting them in her dress, her shoes, and in her hair.
Luckily for us, LaRose closed the night in a spectacular way, treating the audience to an amazing encore of her unreleased song. Referencing the famous romcom How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and a related personal experience, Larose delivered a breathtaking stripped version of her song“ How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.” With only the piano accompanying her, the minimal arrangement allowed her voice to shine perfectly creating an unforgettable end to an incredible night.
We are honored to have attended Heather LaRose’s set with Breaking Sound. Her performance left a remarkable impression and we highly recommend streaming her music. When you see her name for another performance in LA, or any other city she may pop up in, be sure to add her to your must-see list.
Thank you, Heather! We really enjoyed our night with you!
