Daphne’s diary entry #8
Written by Daphne Bryant
It’s been over a month since my last diary entry, but I’m back with big, awesome, sexy news! First things first, I graduated college a semester early which means I am DONE! It’s OVER! I’m FREE! And also the most lost and frustrated I’ve been in a long time. Simply put, ya girl just wants a MF job!
Our LA readers will be happy to know that I have decided I want to stay in California for at least another year, but in order to move out there permanently I need to be working.Even if it’s two part time jobs that have nothing at all to do with my degree (almost said major, but no bitch I have a DEGREEE),I know that my true passion right now lies with the zine. As long as I have Dreamworldgirl, I know I’ll be productive and working towards a goal bigger and brighter than myself.
But enough about me! Let’s talk DWG.
1. DWG Diaries has a third episode coming out! If you’re a hardcore Dreamworldgirl fan you probably already know this, but we have a podcast now called DWG Diaires (which you can stream on Spotify). Our most recent episode was with Daughter Zine, and the one coming up is with LOEN, a lesbian music artist with connections to both Boston and LA #perfect! We can’t wait for you all to listen.
2. We’re doing a collaborative matchmaking/networking event with Plural Zine! Events are such a great way to build up our community, and since LA got the Bitter Bitch Picnic in November, Boston is getting a matchmaking/networking event in January (official name/location/details to be announced later this month)! Essentially we wanted to create a space where creatives, especially those interested in zines/publications, could meet each other, have conversations and exchange socials. And, since we are deep in the throes of cuffing season, finding a potential love match couldn’t hurt either! We hope all our Massachusetts baes will show up and show out for this :)
3. Submissions closed for Issue 02 and our staff is hard at work reviewing everything. We received 280 submissions for Issue 02: Bitter, which is more than double the amount for Issue 01: DIY. We’ve determined that the acceptance rate will be 0.9%! #CRAZYYY While this sadly means that we won’t be able to fit in many of the incredible pieces that were sent in to us, I do hope it will be the most incredible ego boost for those that are accepted. You are the best of the best. Furthermore, a lot of artists (with their consent) will probably have their pieces automatically accepted for publication on our blog. While we understand that this might not be as enchanting as print for a lot of people, it’s still a huge accomplishment!
Acceptance and rejection emails go out on December 21st, so keep an eye on your emails!
4. Merch is coming (and lots of it)! We did our Merch Shoot Pt. 1 and it went SO well! Photos are actually already ready (s/o speedy Mairin), and since I love you all sooo much, I’ll go ahead and give you a sneak peek —->
The second part will be shot on December 20th, so get ready for MORE merch, MORE beautiful models, and MORE stunning shots!
5. We’re doing a giveaway that ends on December 17th #dontmissit! Don’t you love free stuff? AND don’t you love print media? We’re giving away a free print copy of Issue 01: DIY, just in time for the holidays. The winner will be announced on December 17th at 12 PM EST, so make sure to follow us on Instagram @dreamworldgirlzine, comment your favorite thing about the zine, and tag a friend in order to be entered.Yep! That’s really all you have to do <3 Run, don’t walk!
6. Launch party planning is underway! As you may know, we’re doing dual launch parties for Issue 02 (one in Boston and one in LA, on the same day so that we can all celebrate together)! We’re starting to lock in locations, our vendors, DJs, activities, and so much more. All of these details will be released next month so make sure to mark your calendar so that you can grab a print copy and hang out with our wonderful Dreamworldgirl community.
