Daphne’s diary Entry #5

Written by Daphne Bryant

This diary entry is more about the future than anything else! Written below are some ideas I have for the zine, some of which have already been implemented and others of which I hope to do in the future.

  1. Cop or Drop and More Instagram Story Games. This one is kind of silly but TOO real; I think one of the most awesome things about running a mag that is Y2K inspired and very camp/cunt is that we can literally post about anything and everything without fear of coming off unprofessional. Today I posted a Cop or Drop (essentially it’s the“ I would wear this or I would not wear this” game) for Jessica Alba’s early 2000s fits, and people have responded really well to it. In general I just think we need to do more fun engagement things and interact more on our story. More to come for sure!

  2. Pop Culture Quizzes in the Zine. This is something I wanted to do in Issue 01, but it just didn’t come to. For Issue 02 I definitely want to have a pop culture or teen mag inspired quiz, you know, the ones you answer and trace the answers until you get some celebrity or personality type or horoscope. Speaking of horoscopes, I want to do those too (preferably on the blog)! Something to note if you are applying to be a blog writer in a few weeks...

  3. A Boston Commons Fall Picnic. While we love our digital moments, a big goal of mine this year is to get outside more! Even though I’m in LA right now, so many of my staff members and Dreamworldgirl’s fanbase is in Boston. For this reason I’d love to have my future co-EIC, Emma, host a fall picnic in the Boston Commons. Everyone could bring picnic blankets, snacks to eat, books to read (maybe even their zine...), business cards and their speakers for fun music. I might even have my marketing director and brand manager, Rachel, bring some crafts for us to do! The picnic would be open to everyone and anyone; it would be an opportunity to relax and enjoy the leaves changing, but it would also be an opportunity to meet like-minded creatives and connect.Low stakes, great energy :)

  4. Staff and Intern Bonding Events. This is more specific to actually staff members and interns, but it is so unfortunate that (since we started in summer and everyone was in different places) we haven’t had any internal bonding events yet. I think this is definitely a need, for both our future Boston-based, LA-based and remote staff.

  5. Powerpoint Night (RSVP). A powerpoint night would be a merging of the two, an indoor event that is not for everyone, but is also not exclusive: in order to attend you would have to RSVP (regardless of whether or not you are a staff member, intern or just a follower/friend). The first fifteen people to RSVP would be invited to a super secret location (one of the staff members’ apartments) for a fun party, and they would also be required to make a powerpoint to present during the event. It could be about anything, and like the fall picnic, would be a way to meet others in your area. After the first fifteen are accepted, everyone else would be put on a waitlist. Ideally I’d get to do this in LA and Emma would get to host this in Boston.

  6. In-Person Writing Workshop. Dreamworldgirl Zine can definitely have a glamorous vibe, what with our editorial photoshoots and celebrity collabs. But first and foremost, I’m a Creative Writing major, and I love to uplift those who write fiction, poetry and non-fiction. It would be a dream to host a scenic in-person writing workshop where anyone can come and be guided through a series of prompts, urged to dig deep. I would love to do this at a coffee shop, in collaboration with organizations like Sapphic Creative Writing.TBD...
