STAFF POSITIONS

These are all stipend-based positions (amount dependent on zine’s success), with payment awarded at the end of the Issue 03 season. All applicants must be 18+.

  • ✮ Location: Hybrid (Boston/LA) or remote

    ✮ Range: April-September

    ✮ Schedule: At least two assignments a week & weekly meetings

    ✮ Description:

    Our new Marketing Director will support the EIC and lead the Marketing Team (four individuals total) in various initiatives to increase brand awareness, promote services, and engage with the Dreamworldgirl community. This position offers hands-on experience in graphic design, digital marketing, video editing and content creation. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and jack of all trades with excellent communication skills.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including social media, email, and print.

    • Create engaging content for social media platforms.

    • Monitor and analyze the performance of marketing campaigns and social media channels using analytics tools.

    • Support the planning and execution of community events and outreach programs.

    • Conduct market research to identify trends and opportunities for growth.

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to brainstorm new and innovative growth strategies.

    • Assist with administrative tasks and assign other duties to your department.

    • Organize and meet weekly with the marketing team.

    • Guide the Video Editing intern.

    • Experience with graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.,) is necessary.

    • Experience with video editing is necessary.

    • Leadership experience is also necessary.

    • Have a strong grasp on current social media and marketing trends.

    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

    ✮ Description:

    We are looking for one Boston-based Photo Coordinator to head our photo and videoshoot department. Photo Coordinators will be assigned photoshoots and be brought on as the official staff photographer, but they will also assist our Boston-based EIC, Isabelle, in building aesthetics for shoots and organizing cast and crew. Additionally, Photo Coordinators are tasked with providing feedback on any photography submissions for print, and will meet with the EICs and LA-based Photo Coordinator to share opinions.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Manage and help oversee DWG’s photo and video pursuits.

    • Be a photographer for at least THREE shoots during the summer season.

    • Assist with creative direction.

    The LA-based stylist will be responsible for assisting the EICs in building the aesthetic for any and all Dreamworldgirl photoshoots, primarily by styling our models. Stylists must be comfortable communicating with models, outsourcing clothes that align with a shoot’s theme, and putting together cohesive looks in 1-2 weeks time. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry and develop your skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A driver’s license or access to public transport is highly encouraged.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Style models for DG Zine shoots.

    • Source clothes from personal wardrobes and from thrift stores/markets for sustainable looks.

    • Guide and mentor your Fashion Intern, who will work under you.

    • Be present on set.

    • Think quickly on your feet and be able to pull together complete looks.

    • Attend team meetings.

    • Attend any fashion-related events or conferences that we are invited to.

    • 1+ years of styling experience.

    • Strong understanding of fashion history and current trends.

    • Excellent digital and verbal communication skills.

    • Creative mindset with attention to detail.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

    Our Readers are crucial members of Dreamworldgirl Zine’s fast-paced editorial department; they are tasked with reading ALL prose and poetry submissions for our print issue and writing detailed feedback on each piece that they’re assigned. It is their feedback and suggestions that will help shape the curation of Issue 03.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Read all prose and poetry submissions.

    • Provide unbiased perspective on assigned pieces by submitting feedback paragraphs.

    • Attend team meetings.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Bilingualism or multilingualism is not a requirement, but appreciated

Internships

These are all unpaid positions, with potential for stipend-based employment later on. All applicants must be 18+.

    • Experience editing for social media (TikTok, Instagram Reels, etc.,), as well as film or magazine projects is preferred.

    • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Have strong organizational and time management skills.

    The Design Intern will collaborate with our layout design team on the next print/digital issue (Issue 03). They will get to work on real projects and gain feedback from career mentors along the way. Beyond that, they are also invited to help build our culture and design practice with us. We are looking for people who care about their craft, their teammates and Dreamworldgirl’s mission. We will be hiring one individual eager to deepen their knowledge of layout design and push the boundaries of their talents.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Design pages for the print issue.

    • Shadow layout designers, ask questions, attend team meetings.

    • Be creative and original.

    • Occasionally help out with graphic design (such as flyers).

    • Experience with graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.,) is necessary.

    • Have a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to design.

    • Possess an understanding of the magazine publishing process.

    • Be comfortable with critique.

    • Be eager to learn from others.

    • Have familiarity with a variety of typography, image editing, etc.,

    The Editorial Intern will assist with Dreamworldgirl Zine’s fast-paced editorial department. Our editorial team edits all print and blog pieces, getting hands-on experience with real-life work, and the intern chosen will be expected to do the same. 

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Provide perspective on and help select pitches for the blog.

    • Work with the DWG editorial team and staff writers to refine fiction and non-fiction pieces for print and the blog.

    • Collaborate with the editorial and design team to choose the order of print pieces.

    • Become familiar with the Nerdist voice.

    • Pitch article suggestions and write the occasional article.

    • Assist in image sourcing, social copy drafting, article formatting, and other standard tasks for online publishing.

    • Experience using Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications is necessary.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Possess an understanding of the magazine and or online publishing process.

    • University students and recent college graduates are preferred.

    • Bilingualism or multilingualism is not a requirement, but appreciated.

    Our Fashion Interns will assist the EICs in building the aesthetic for many of our Dreamworldgirl photoshoots. We will be hiring one for Boston and one for LA!The primary responsibility is styling our models and creating a cohesive look that aligns with the theme of the shoot. Fashion interns also help with casting and creative direction. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry and develop your skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A driver’s license or access to public transport is highly encouraged.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Style models for DWG shoots.

    • Source clothes from personal wardrobes and from thrift stores/markets for sustainable looks.

    • Be present on set.

    • Think quickly on your feet and pull together complete looks.

    • Be willing to shadow stylists.

    • Attend any fashion-related events or conferences that we are invited to.

    • Occasionally cast models for shoots.

    • At least six months of styling experience.

    • Strong understanding of fashion history and current trends.

    • Excellent digital and verbal communication skills.

    • Creative mindset with attention to detail.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

    • A driver’s license or access to public transport.

    The Boston-based Makeup Intern will assist the EICs in building the aesthetic for any and all Dreamworldgirl photoshoots, primarily by performing makeup artistry on models. Interns must be comfortable doing makeup on our models and creating a cohesive look that aligns with the theme of the shoot. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the beauty industry and develop your skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A driver’s license or access to public transport is highly encouraged.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Do makeup on models for DWG shoots.

    • Provide your own makeup tools.

    • Be able to work with different skin tones.

    • Be present on set.

    • Think quickly on your feet and be able to replicate complete looks.

    • Any MUA experience.

    • Strong understanding of current trends.

    • Creative mindset with attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Media Management Interns will assist in running and updating many of our social media platforms, such as YouTube, Pinterest, Tumblr, ChillSubs, etc., They will also monitor our email and Google Calendar, as well as do frequent grant coordination and outreach for paid partnerships and brand collabs. We are looking for someone who is tech-savvy and cares about Dreamworldgirl’s mission. We will be hiring one creative and passionate individual eager to deepen their knowledge of public relations, grant coordination and social media.

    ✮ Responsibilities and Qualifications:

    • Generate and post content for social media platforms.

    • Post updates across social media platforms.

    • Help grow our social media following.

    • Apply to and secure grants.

    • Assist head EIC Daphne in securing paid partnerships, brand collabs and sponsors.

    • Monitor emails and report back to the head EIC Daphne.

    • Help monitor the calendar and update it for meetings, photoshoots, etc.,

    • Experience with social media management. 

    • Experience with grant coordination and paid partnerships/sponsorships.

    • Experience with the Google Suite.

A Note On Merch Designers

Even though merch designers are not considered staff members or interns, they do work with us long-term throughout the season to create merch. If you’re interested in creating merch for Issue 03, the application for that will also go live on the 2nd.
