ways to get more involved with dreamworldgirl zine

If you’re reading this you probably already keep up with DWG (or at the very least, you’re curious about us and want to learn more). As you may or may not know, we have so much going on, all of the time, so it can be easy to miss events, opportunities and updates. That being said, we thought it might be good to compile a list of ways to get more involved with our zine. Check it out below!

1. come to ctrl + alt + meet

Our next big event is CTRL + ALT + MEET, a collaborative networking and matchmaking event organized and hosted by us, Plural Zine and Framingham State University’s Art Department. You might be wondering: what exactly is this event? What would I do there?

The answer is: so much! The main facet of the event is the tabling, which are all done by Massachusetts-based artists, creative organizations, zines, etc., You’ll find Jardin Zine there, a Boston-based zine with a calming aesthetic, Lesbos, a lesbian newsletter, Tripp Fiala, a fashion designer, and so much more. When you arrive inside the McCarthy Forum (where the event is being held), you’ll immediately see a myriad of individuals/organizations to speak with and get to know. You’ll be able to get their socials, chat with representatives, look through their catalog and make new friends! No one will actually be selling anything; we don’t want this event to feel transactional. It’s a chill, lowkey way to meet like-minded individuals and discover new artists.

We’ll also have a mini clothing swap put on by Sustainable Swaps, live performances put on by Soul Recipe Records, an arts and crafts center put on by the FSU Art Club, and (one of the things we’re most excited for) a Blind Date session hosted by DWG members, in which we pair single strangers up with each other and ask them compatibility questions.

The best part is that it’s all free! RSVP and get your ticket below <3

2. check out the careers page (we just had a refresh)!

We get a lot of DMs and emails from people asking how they can get more involved with Dreamworldgirl Zine. The most permanent way is as a staff member or intern, but the hiring season for official positions won’t start up again until April. That being said, we’ve given our Careers page a refresh to include four new categories for freelance, volunteer opportunities with the zine. Whether you’re a photographer, production designer, or just really good at events, there’s something for everyone. We won’t always post when the Careers page gets updated, so it’s recommended that you check at the beginning of every week to see if there’s any new opportunities available. Currently we are looking for models, gaffers, and social media professionals, but it’ll be different every time you look!

3. pitch to the blog

The DG Blog is our purely digital platform for nonfiction (including creative nonfiction) and visual media. If you ever want to pitch to it, you can do so by filling out this really simple form.Almost every single idea is accepted, so if you want to dip your toes into online publication this is a great place to start.

4. buy some merch

If you didn’t know, our second merch collection: BITTER BITCH was released yesterday! We sold out of a few items, but there are still so many available! If you’d like to support us, independent designers, AND get some cute clothes/pins/bags, etc., out of it, then this is definitely the way to go. Any leftover merch will be available to buy at the launch parties too (see below), so if you’re wanting to skip out on shipping cost, you can get yours at face value there!

5. come to our launch parties (one in la, one in boston) and buy a zine!

Issue 02 is getting released on February 8th (both in print and digital), so we’re obviously going to throw some launch parties for it. Since we opened a branch in LA at the end of last summer, we will have one launch party in LA and one in Boston. On the same night! How cute is that? In true DWG fashion, we will be having a party on both coasts ;)

Flyers and ticketing for both events drop on January 18th (this Saturday) so make sure you’re ready, as there will be capacity limits. The flyers will reveal more about what will actually be at the party (hint: live performances, hint: temporary tattoos, hint: tarot readings, hint: THEMES, hint: buy a MF zine)...shit, we’ve said too much already. Just come LOL!

6. donate and share

One of the simplest ways to get involved is to donate (any amount helps!) and share the zine on socials/spread info via word of mouth. We sincerely appreciate support in any form <3
