Searching For Spring: A Playlist

Created by Elizabeth Weiss

Ready for the slush to wash away and the black ice to melt? Since winter started, I’ve been dreaming of spring. With March around the bend, it’s time to lock in and channel those sunny vibes. Naturally, I prepped a playlist to keep you grounded in your yearning as you crave those spring vibes.

“ Pepsi on the House” — Peach Pit

A playlist isn’t a playlist without Peach Pit in my humble opinion. Something about this song is so inherently spring. The upbeat melodies and harmonies are an absolute crowd-pleaser. Who doesn’t love a song touching on the fears of growing up (can you tell I’m scared to turn 20)?

“ While My Guitar Gently Weeps” — The Beatles

This classic hit offers a perfect mix of introspection and timelessness. There’s something about George Harrison’s guitar that just evokes the quiet thawing of winter.

“ Idaho” — Slow Pulp

Slow Pulp’s lush, dreamy sound captures the stillness of those in-between moments as you feel like spring is just around the corner but hasn’t quite made its entrance yet. This track evokes the peace of a quiet, sunny morning as the sun begins to shine brighter.

“ Mona” — Winkler

If you’ve ever wandered through the streets of a sleepy town in early spring, you’ll recognize the wistful yet hopeful vibe of“ Mona.” The sound is light, but the undercurrent of yearning hints at the deeper layers of transition we feel this time of year.

“ Someday” — The Strokes

There’s something about“ Someday” that just screams nostalgia, and as winter begins to fade, it feels like the perfect song for those moments when you’re looking back at what’s behind you and thinking about what’s ahead. And thankfully, that’s spring!

“ Acolyte” — Slaughter Beach, Dog

This track captures the essence of introspection during a quiet transition. With its calming rhythm and thoughtful lyrics, it embodies the feelings that arise when the world around you shifts slowly but surely from cold to warm.

“ Ride” — Lana Del Rey

Lana’s“ Ride” gives you that feeling of freedom, like the world is vast and full of possibilities, just as spring is a time for new beginnings.

“ Who Loves the Sun” — The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground’s classic“ Who Loves the Sun” is a serene ode to the joys of sunlight. The chill rhythm and Lou Reed’s laid-back vocals echo the simplicity of spring’s arrival. It’s the perfect song to bask in as the warmth begins to touch everything around you.
