Self-proclaimed“ vag rock” band Cherry Crisis has outdone themselves with their latest release“ Bailey.” The song features ample dog motifs, including lyrics such as“ Even though I’m not your favorite bone,” and“ Even though I’m not your dog.” These quirky yet vulnerable canine-inspired lyrics feel refreshing and bold, like something you might hear in a coffee shop or indie movie.
Differing from their first-ever release“ Lemons,” the chord progression and tempo really picks up, creating an upbeat mood and intoxicating experience. The line“ I like it when you call me Bailey” sticks out, deviating from the theme of dogs and yet, still creating a chorus reminiscent of yearning. The energy dips as fast as it picks up, keeping listeners on their toes.
The unexpected shift in tempo is a clever choice, ensuring the song doesn’t settle into a predictable rhythm and reflecting the relationship being depicted. It is anything but predictable. The lyrical decisions, paired with the dynamic arrangement, show a mature growth in Cherry Crisis’ sound.
“ Bailey” is a testament to the band’s ability to blend fun with depth, pushing boundaries while staying true to their unique style.
